A new set of state science standards was adopted in Oklahoma by default when the state legislature failed to take action on them by a May 1, 2025 deadline.

The new standards are almost identical to the previous standards — albeit with minor improvements, such as the inclusion of material about evolution in environmental science — and were supported by the grassroots Oklahomans for Excellence in Science Education.

At its February 27, 2025, meeting, the state board of education voted 5-1 to approve the standards, which then proceeded to the legislature for its consideration.
